Spain Seasonal Work Visa for Farm Workers

Last updated

Work a Harvest Season in Spain

Spain’s farms need extra hands every season, and this permit lets you fill one of those jobs legally. The seasonal work permit lets you live and work in Spain for up to nine months in each calendar year. It is valid for four years with one employer, who calls you back each new season. Between seasons, you return to your home country, which makes this a reliable way to earn in Spain year after year.

Requirements for Workers and Employers

You must be 16 or older, live outside Spain, and not be an EU citizen. You also need a clean criminal record for the last five years and must sign a commitment to return home when your contract ends. Your employer must pay your trip to Spain, provide suitable accommodation, and arrange health insurance from the day you travel. The employer must also offer a written fixed-discontinuous contract and show that the job could not be filled by workers already in Spain.

How to Get Hired and Apply

First, find a Spanish farm employer. You can search official job portals such as Empléate and the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), or popular job sites like InfoJobs and Indeed Spain, using terms such as “trabajo de temporada agrícola” and “contratación en origen”. Some workers are also hired in groups directly in their home country through Spain’s collective hiring program. Your employer applies online at least two months before work starts, and the authorities decide within one month. After approval, you have one month to apply for your visa at the Spanish consulate, which then decides within one month. Once you arrive, your employer registers you with Social Security within three days, and you apply for your foreigner identity card (TIE) within one month. At the end of the season, report back to the consulate within one month, or future applications may be refused for three years.

Can You Change Employers During the Season?

Yes, after three months of work in a season, or sooner if your employer seriously breaks the contract. The new job must be in the same sector.

Can You Renew the Seasonal Work Permit?

Yes, for another four years. You must stay in the same sector, but you can change your job type and region.
