Italy EU Blue Card for Highly Skilled Workers
Last updated
A Fast Track to Italy for Skilled Professionals
If you are an engineer, IT specialist or another highly skilled professional, the EU Blue Card can be your fastest way to live and work in Italy. It is a work and residence permit for non-EU experts who have a job offer from an Italian company. Unlike most Italian work visas, it has no yearly quota and no click day, so your employer can apply at any time. Your family can join you more easily, and the permit lasts two years with a permanent contract.
Who Can Apply for the Italy Blue Card
You need a university degree from a course of at least three years, or at least five years of relevant work experience. For IT managers and specialists, three years of experience within the last seven years can be enough. You also need a job offer or contract of at least six months, with a salary at or above Italy’s average. There is no age limit and no official language requirement, although some employers may ask for Italian or English.
How to Get the Italy Blue Card Step by Step
First, prepare your degree with a Declaration of Value, your CV, proof of experience and official translations. Next, search for jobs on EURES, LinkedIn and Indeed Italy with terms like “Software Engineer Italy visa sponsorship” or “Mechanical Engineer Italy”. Once you have an offer, your employer applies for your work authorisation, and you then apply for your visa at the Italian embassy in your country. Within eight days of arriving in Italy, you sign your residence contract and receive your Blue Card permit.
What Are the Benefits of the Italy Blue Card?
You can apply at any time of the year, with no quota and no waiting line. Your spouse and children can join you more easily, and you can look for a new job if you become unemployed. You can also do freelance work alongside your main job.
What Documents Do You Need?
You usually need a valid passport, a visa form, a photo, your signed job offer and your employer’s work authorisation. You also need your degree with a Declaration of Value, proof of experience and translations. Always check the Italian embassy’s website for the full, current list.
