Denmark Work Visa for Engineers: High-Salary Route

Last updated

Denmark Wants Engineers, and Pays Them Well

Denmark has a strong demand for highly qualified engineers in green energy, wind power, robotics and major building projects, with a well-known robotics hub around Odense. Engineering workplaces are often international, English is widely spoken, and salaries and work-life balance are among the best in Europe. This route, officially called the Pay Limit Scheme, is based on your salary, not your job title, so any engineer with a well-paid job offer can apply, without being on a special occupation list. If your offer meets the minimum salary, this can be your most direct route to a Danish residence and work permit.

What You Need to Qualify

You need a job offer in Denmark with an annual salary of at least DKK 552,000 (2026 level), which is adjusted every 1 January. Only your fixed salary, pension contributions and holiday allowance count toward this amount, not extras like a company car or phone. The job must be at least 30 hours a week, your pay and terms must meet Danish standards for engineers, and your salary must be paid into a Danish bank account in your name. You must open this account within 180 days after your permit is granted, and the application fee is DKK 6,810.

How to Find an Engineering Job and Apply

First, update your CV and write a cover letter for each job that clearly shows how your skills match the role. Next, search for jobs on Workindenmark’s Job Search in Denmark, EURES and LinkedIn, using terms like “Electrical Engineer Denmark”, “Wind Energy Engineer”, “Robotics Engineer Odense” or “Civil Engineer Denmark”. When you get an offer, check that the salary meets the pay limit, and ask whether your employer is certified for the faster Fast-Track Scheme. Finally, create a case order ID on the SIRI website, pay the fee, submit your online application with your contract, and give your photo and fingerprints within 14 days. Processing usually takes about one month, or up to three months if SIRI needs more information. Emig can also help you improve your CV and prepare stronger job applications.

What If Your Salary Is Below the Pay Limit?

You may still have options. If your job is on Denmark’s Positive List, there is no fixed salary minimum. The Supplementary Pay Limit Scheme also accepts DKK 446,000 a year, but has extra conditions.

Can Your Family Come With You?

Yes, in most cases. Your spouse or partner and children under 18 living at home can usually get a permit to live with you in Denmark.
