Canada Express Entry for Nurses
Last updated
What This Pathway Is and What You Get
This pathway uses Canada's Express Entry system to invite nursing professionals to apply for permanent residence. Canada holds special rounds just for healthcare workers, including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and nurse aides. Being invited in one of these rounds can mean becoming a permanent resident faster than through a general round. Once you have permanent residence, you and your family can live, work, and study anywhere in Canada.
Who It Is For
This pathway is for nurses with at least one year of full-time nursing work experience in the last three years. Your experience can be from Canada or from another country, and it does not need to be continuous. You also need an eligible language test score and must qualify for one of Canada's main Express Entry programs. If you don't have at least a year of nursing experience, this specific pathway isn't the right one to start with yet.
How to Start
Step 1: Take an approved English or French language test and get your results. Step 2: Get your education and nursing credentials assessed, if needed. Step 3: Create your Express Entry profile and select the programs you qualify for. Step 4: Wait for an invitation, which can come through a general round or a healthcare-specific round. Keeping your profile complete and up to date gives you the best chance of being invited quickly.
What are the benefits of Canada Express Entry for Nurses?
Nurses are in high demand across Canada, so healthcare-specific rounds can lead to an invitation faster than waiting for a general round. Many applicants get a decision on their permanent residence application within around six months of applying. Once approved, your family can come with you as permanent residents too.
What documents do I need?
You will generally need your passport, language test results, proof of your nursing work experience, and an educational credential assessment. Always confirm the full, current list of documents on the official Canadian immigration website before you apply.
