The France Talent Passport Opens Doors in Europe

The France Talent Passport is a residence permit for skilled workers, researchers, founders, investors and artists. It lets you live and work in France for up to four years with a single permit. Your spouse and children can come with you, and your spouse can work in France too. Unlike a standard work permit, your employer does not need to prove that no French candidate was available.

France Talent Passport Categories

The permit has several categories, so you can apply as a qualified employee, a European Union Blue Card holder or a researcher. Founders, investors and people with an innovative business project have their own categories. There are also categories for company representatives, artists and performers, and people with a national or international reputation. Choose the category that matches your real situation, because each one has its own rules.

France Talent Passport Requirements

Qualified employees need a master's-level degree earned in France, a French job contract longer than three months, and a salary of at least €39,582 gross per year.. The European Union Blue Card needs a contract of at least one year, three years of higher education or five years of experience, and a salary of at least €59,373 gross per year. Business founders must invest at least €30,000 and hold a master’s degree or five years of experience. Researchers need at least a master’s degree and a hosting agreement with a French research institution.

Steps to Get a France Talent Passport

First, check which category fits you on France-Visas, the official visa website. For employee categories, your employer completes an official form and adds company documents. Next, apply online, book an appointment at the visa center, and give your fingerprints and photo. After arriving in France, you apply for your multi-year residence permit within two months.

Talent Passport Validity and Renewal

Your permit lasts as long as your contract or project, up to four years. If your stay is under one year, you receive a long-stay visa that works as a residence permit, which you validate online within three months. You can renew the permit as long as you still meet the conditions of your category. Salary thresholds change over time, so check the current figures before you renew.

Can My Family Come and Work in France?

Yes, your spouse and children can come with you and receive their own multi-year residence permits. Your spouse, and children from age 18, have the right to work in France.

Do I Need a Job Offer for a Talent Passport?

Not always. Employee categories need a French job contract, but founder, investor, artist and reputation categories are based on your project, investment or achievements instead.

Who Cannot Apply for a Talent Passport?

Citizens of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland do not need it, since they can live and work in France freely. Algerian citizens follow their own agreement with France, so they apply under different rules.
